If anyone knows how Novak Djokovic feels after sweating and scrapping for almost five hours in the Australian Open semifinals, it's his next opponent -- Rafael Nadal. A day after Nadal beat Roger Federer in four compelling sets, Djokovic dug deep to overcome Andy Murray 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 7-5 on Friday night after 4 hours, 50 minutes.

Peyton Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay insist they are just fine after a week filled with complaints and comments suggesting a rift had developed following one of the most miserable seasons in team history. "We would like to dispel any misperception that there might be any hard feelings between us," the two said Friday in a statement issued by the team.


Heat's Wade returns, Knicks' Anthony out (AP)

Carmelo Anthony is hurting. Dwyane Wade no longer is. Anthony sat out the New York Knicks' game at Miami on Friday night, a contest where Wade made his return to the starting lineup after a six-game absence to recover from a sprained right ankle. Anthony is dealing with an array of thumb, wrist and ankle problems.
Father: Gronkowski has high ankle sprain (AP)

Rob Gronkowski's playing status for the Super Bowl was listed as questionable on Friday after the star tight end missed the New England Patriots practice for the second straight day with an injured left ankle. Twelve other players also were listed as questionable but participated in practice on a limited basis.
Selig: Playoffs likely to expand in 2012 (AP)

Bud Selig talks about plans to expand the playoffs.

Commissioner Bud Selig expects baseball to expand its playoffs this season. Players and owners have already agreed to add an additional wild-card team in each league, but are still deciding whether it would take effect this year or in 2013. Selig said there are scheduling issues to be worked out -- once they are, the new 10-team format would begin with a one-game playoff.


Browns hire Childress to run offense (AP)

Pat Shurmur brought in a close friend to help him fix Cleveland's broken offense. Shurmur hired former Minnesota coach Brad Childress as his first offensive coordinator on Friday, reuniting two coaches who spent seven seasons together on Andy Reid's staff with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Browns confirmed Childress' hiring with a release that did not include any quotes.
Dolphins add coordinators Sherman, Coyle (AP)

Joe Philbin was once hired by Mike Sherman in Green Bay. On Friday, Philbin returned the favor. The new coach of the Miami Dolphins hired Sherman as offensive coordinator on Friday, also adding Kevin Coyle as the team's defensive coordinator. Combined, the 57-year-old Sherman and the 56-year-old Coyle have 68 years of football coaching experience.
St. Louis: London games violate lease (AP)

The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission says the Rams' plans to play one home game in London the next three years violates the team's stadium lease. The CVC said in a release Friday that the lease requires the team to play all its home games at the Edward Jones Dome, and was awaiting a response from the team.
Medical issue ends Cremins' season (AP)

Bobby Cremins' assistant says the veteran basketball coach hasn't looked well the past few weeks and Friday evening the College of Charleston announced Cremins will miss the rest of the season because of a medical problem. Yet, Mark Byington -- who will take over as the Cougars' coach -- was still surprised when the 64-year-old Cremins called him Friday morning with the news.
Bogut out 8-12 weeks with ankle fracture (AP)

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut is expected to miss 8-12 weeks with a fractured left ankle. The team disclosed the update after more tests on Friday, one day after saying Bogut would be out indefinitely. Bogut was hurt Wednesday night against Houston when his foot landed awkwardly on a Rockets player's foot.
